Lord Mayor elected

Westminster City Council has elected Councillor Angela Harvey to be the new Lord Mayor of Westminster.

She replaces Cllr Susie Burbridge, who was elected in 2011.

Cllr Harvey, who was elected at the annual council meeting last week, has been a member of the council for the past ten years and represents the Tachbrook ward.

Her Consort during her mayoral year will be her husband and fellow City Councillor, David Harvey.

As Lord Mayor Cllr Harvey intends, under a new initiative called ‘Open Westminster’, to improve access for all Westminster residents to the natural environment and the arts. This will be done through the City of Westminster Charitable Trust of which she is Chairman.

Cllr Harvey served as Cabinet Member for Housing between 2004-08.

Amongst her many achievements, she successfully set up an independent Housing Commission in September 2005, which was charged with the task of identifying new and creative ways to combat the City’s shortage of affordable housing.

As part of her ongoing work and commitment to improving employment opportunities in the city, Cllr Harvey also chaired the London local government committee for employment issues.

She has a long standing interest in the built environment, having been chairman of the Built Environment Policy and Scrutiny Committee, a member of the Planning Committee and the South Area Forum.

In her professional life Cllr Harvey is a well established HR practitioner and consultant, working in the corporate sector and running her own business. She is a Henley Business School trained Executive Coach.

Assuming the position of Lord Mayor, Cllr Harvey said: "I am honoured to have been elected Lord Mayor of Westminster.

The city represents the very best of London, and showcases the vibrant heart of business, tourism and the arts.

“As part of my new initiative, I am keen to foster greater access to the natural environment and the arts.
